About the City of Springfield, Minnesota
Springfield is a growing vibrant community with a solid base that includes a strong city government, a variety of businesses and advanced education. The health care needs are met with a strong Mayo affiliated health care system and a skilled nursing home. Our agriculture based community accessibility includes the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Highway 14, DME Railroad, a lighted and paved 3400-foot airport runway.

Two schools fulfill our educational needs. Springfield Public School offers classes pre-school to 12th grade with required curriculum and a broad base of extra curricular activities. To broaden your horizons Community Education classes are available. St. Raphael Catholic School offers classes pre-school to 6th grade. It is their mission to bring the students to a deeper relationship with Jesus while providing quality education.

Economic Development in Springfield includes an Industrial Park with 86 acres with incentives available. Springfield Economic Development Authority provides assistance to new and existing businesses. Major employers are Coleman Powermate, Ochs Brick and Tile and Salonek Construction, Springfield Medical Center and St. John Nursing Home. There is housing available including senior housing and lots available to build your dream home. There are twelve service organizations and four foundations. The Springfield Area Community Center overlooks the Big Cottonwood River and Riverside Park and is adjacent to the business district. This beautiful, functional building is designed to accommodate several groups at one time. Adjacent area hosts a brick patio bordered by flower beds and enhanced by flowing waterfall fountain. Riverside Park is nestled along the Big Cottonwood River. It features an outdoor swimming pool with figure-8water slide and kiddy pool. Enjoy the hiking/biking path around the park and a walking path along the river to Springfield Golf Course. There are tennis courts, ball fields and a wonderful playground area for children to enjoy. Shelters are available near the pool. Adjacent to the park is Rothenburg Campground. Which has electrical/water hook-up sites(including a handicapped site), two bathhouses with showers and a disposal station. The Springfield Public Library was a gift to the community from Charles and Ethel Altermatt. It is a full service library with Internet service access and inter-library loan service, with Springfield and area naturalization records and Springfield newspaper on microfilm from 1800's to present. You may receive printed material from anywhere in the United States. Altermatt meeting rooms are also available.

Springfield offers a wide variety of recreational activities . Besides Riverside Park, the community hosts four additional parks. Two of these have shelters, picnic and playground areas. The Springfield Golf Course is located on the banks of the Big Cottonwood River. Springfield Golf Course is a nine-hole, public course. There is a restaurant/lounge area that overlooks hole #1. The Golf Course host a Men's Invitational in June and a Scramble Fest in September.

The Ridge Runner Snowmobile Club grooms 80 miles of trails from Springfield to Cobden, Evan, Comfrey and Sanborn. They host summer events - Snow blast and Grass drags and also offer safety training. Springfield Lanes, a superb bowling alley connected to The Garage, a restaurant with a classic car theme, is also available for visitors and residents to enjoy.
